Jimmys Travel Report

Hyatt Regency Santa Clara

The family was getting together in Honolulu for spring break this year. Our best deal for flying to and from Honolulu was a round trip from bay area San Jose airport to Honolulu and back. San Jose is around 90 minutes from Sacramento, with no traffic. Had we driven to the airport in the morning it could have taken up to 3 hours for the traverse (in the morning commute) and our flight was scheduled for 8:55AM. In an effort to make the morning less hectic (and pick up a Hyatt stay) we decided to book a room at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara the night before our flight. We arrived at the hotel late that evening after a day at the office.

The associate at the reception desk quickly checked us in. She thanked me for being a Diamond with Hyatt and gave us our room key cards, as well as our bonus points in lieu of an in-room amenity. I had emailed the Hyatt before our arrival and they had already set up a rollaway for our teenage daughter. Both Susan and her daughter were tired and were ready to get some sleep. We proceeded to the elevators and to our floor. After a quick jog in the path of the hall we were at room 1339.

The room geometry was straight forward. It was a small square space with a very short entry hall. Off the hall to the left was the closet and to the right the bathroom. The room décor was nice, and typical Hyatt modern. I missed taking a couple additional pictures of the room, but Susan and Ann were so tired that after a quick couple snaps they had taken over. I can’t say I blamed them.

The bathroom was a fit right along the room, not too large and smartly appointed in typical Hyatt modern. The bathroom had enough room for 1 with a sink counter, commode and shower. The following morning, I woke up a half an hour early to sneak in and clean up for the day ahead of the girls. Water pressure on the shower was weak (read low flow heads), but the water was hot and steady which helps compensate.

Even though the girls were tired, I hadn’t had a chance to eat dinner and was decently hungry. After tucking them in I went downstairs to hotel bar/restaurant and had a bite. The hamburger was good and service was attentive. Santa Clara is in the heart of Silicon Valley and it was interesting to eavesdrop on some of the dot.com conversations going on in the bar area.

The next morning, we visited the Regency Club to have a quick breakfast before driving to the airport. The club at this hotel is medium size and the array of food was very good. When you first enter the club there is a coffee bar to your right and then a buffet room to the left with sideboards of the different offerings. You then proceed slightly to the right and back for the main dining space. To the left of the dining space is a computer “business center” alcove which is available if you wanted to get some work done.

The fair offered included fresh fruit, a bread station that included breakfast pizza, salmon and cold cuts and the hot items including eggs, bacon and potato’s. I had some eggs and oatmeal for a little fuel to start the day. Susan gave the club a “thumbs up” vote as she really appreciates having a proper breakfast. Overall the club was quiet during our visit, and this was probably reflective of being there early in the morning.

In summary:

Hyatt Regency Santa Clara worked well for the type of hotel we needed, which is a nice clean room before our flight at the San Jose airport. This hotel is very close to the Levi’s Stadium and I would imagine it can really be booked up before high profile events. Hotel management seems on the ball because we’ve stayed at this property a few times and it’s always been a positive experience. I recommend this property of you are need of a hotel in greater south bay area, or especially attending an event at Levi stadium.
